Alpha pokemon
A Pokerole 3.0 Homebrew that increases the power of a lone combatant so it can survive a fight against multiple opponents.
Alpha pokemon
Narrative Notes
This brew is a follow up to Raid Battles and tackles the same concept: one Pokemon being strong enough to fight against multiple Pokemon. This covers pokemon living in Dynamax or Tera dens, Alpha Pokemon in ancient Hisui or or Lumiose’s rogur mega evolved pokemon, and any other situation you can think of. These rules are more self contained than the raid rules, so if you want to merge them with something like a rogue mega, you can just use those rules as normal.
Mechanics
When you want to create an Alpha Pokemon, you can create the pokemon following the usual rules. In the combat, the following special rules apply.
- The Alpha’s total hit points is multiplied by the number of combatants it’s fighting against. (EX: Alpha Raichu fighting three pokemon multiples it’s health by 3.)
- If the Alpha is fighting three or more pokemon, it doubles it’s total Will Points. If it’s only fighting a two combatants, it should NOT double it’s Will Points.
- At the end of each round, the Alpha recovers all of it’s Will Points. (Be sure to use the liberally, otherwise the Alpha isn’t any different than a regular pokemon!)
- Alphas may spend their Will Points to Take your Chances and for Pushing Fate (see pg. 28) during the same round, but not on the same move.
- The Alpha may use Will Points in ways unique to Alphas.
- Alpha Resistance - The Alpha spends one Will Point and doesn’t suffer a status effect it would have received. (EX: Alpha Raichu spends one Will Point after Growlithe rolls a 6 on it’s chance die to burn Raichu, and Raichu doesn’t become Burned.)
- Alpha Evasion - The Alpha spends a Will Point to use the Evasion maneuver without spending an action. The Alpha may do this even if it’s already used the Evasion maneuver this round.
- Alpha Clash - The Alpha spend a Will Point to use the Clash maneuver without spending an action. The Alpha may do this even if it’s already used the Clash maneuver this round, and may use a move it’s already used this round to execute the Clash.
- The Alpha may use a Will Point on one of the following upgrades when they perform a move. They cannot use more than one a single move.
- Alpha Barrage - The move now Targets All Foes in range, and the move can target all of the enemies present regardless of the Alpha’s rank.
- Alpha Strike - The move gains “Never Miss”.
- Alpha Luck - When the move would roll one or more chance dice to determine if something happens, treat those chance dice as a six.
FAQ & Advice
- Mechanically, these rules are trying to balance out the fact that a group of pokemon gets 5, 10, 15, or even more actions per round than a lone combatant. It does this in two steps, first the lone combatant is given powerful actions to balance out the action economy via spending Will Points, and second they get more Will Points which recover each round so they have them readily available.
